HISTORY & MISSION
Stockdale Baptist Church was established in 1912 as Friendship #1. For over a century Stockdale has been a lighthouse in this community. We have a three-fold purpose as a local church....
That purpose is:
1) To Exalt The Savior (WORSHIP)
2) To Equip The Saints (DISCIPLESHIP)
3) To Evangelize the Sinners (EVANGELISM)
Throughout the past 106 years, there have been countless individuals who have helped carry out that mission. From faithful pastors, to devoted deacons, to talented musicians and loving members, the vision that God placed in the hearts of a small group of believers is thriving today.
MINISTRIES
Worship Services
We have three gathering times available for you to join us for worship. Worship gatherings feature a time of worship and praise, time for prayer, and a message from God's Word. (Sundays 10:50am, 5:30pm,& Wednesdays at 6:30pm)
Sunday School
We have a wonderful Sunday School program. There are classes for all ages. Nursery, 3-5 year olds. Kindergarten- 2nd grade, 3rd- 5th grades, Youth (6th -12th), College and Career, Young Adult, Middle Ages, Mixed Seniors (The Encouragers Class) and Senior Ladies. We have many devoted teachers who are Spirit filled men and women of integrity with a passion for teaching the truth of God's Word.
Children's Ministry
We are blessed with many young children who are not just the future of the Church, but essential in the present. We have a great volunteer staff who work with our children in many ways. On top of the childrens Sunday School program we also have "Children's Church" and "King's Kid's". In both of these ministries your children will enjoy the fellowship of other children, games, snacks, music, field trips, special events and MOST IMPORTANTLY they will be taught foundational truths from God's Word.
Youth Ministry
One of the most vital ministries for any church is the youth/student ministry. In today's world teenagers are confronted with temptations and peer pressure like never before. At Stockdale we have several men and women who do their part to teach, train and lead these teens in their walk with Christ. We have a Youth Sunday School Class as well as a Youth Class on Wednesday night. They will also have the opportunity to participate in special events throughout the year such as concerts, conferences and Youth Camp. There is much fun among this group but there is also a great emphasis on learning truths from God's Holy Word.
Ladies Ministry
One of the most active groups in our church is the Ladies Ministry also known as W.O.M (Women On Mission). They meet once a month on a Tuesday night and have a lesson, food and great fellowship. In this ministry there is much emphasis on Missions. These ladies are great supporters of the Lottie Moon Christmas offering, the Annie Armstrong Easter offering, Operation Christmas Child and many other local, state, national and global mission projects.
Deacon Ministry
The word "Deacon" literally means "servant". We have 6 men who personify what a deacon should be. Whether checking on a sick member in the Hospital, visiting those in the nursing home, caring for the elderly, or helping the needy, these men are faithful to their position.
We also have a "Yokefellow" ministry. These are faithful men of God who come along side the Deacons and help them bear the load.
Music Ministry
The music in our worship services is primarily traditional hymns and we also sing worship choruses and praise hymns from time to time. We have a choir that sings regularly and performs cantatas at Christmas and Easter. We are also blessed with many talented musicians and soloists.
Preaching
Our pastor is an expository preacher who preaches verse by verse through selected texts of the bible. We are currently going though The Gospel Of John on Sundays and on Wednesday evenings we are going studying the book of Jude in a series entitled "Jude: A Letter For The Last Days". Our desire at Stockdale is not to preach about the Bible but rather to PREACH THE BIBLE.
